About Sid Webb
I live in Lexington, KY, the heart of the Bluegrass, about a mile from one of the most beautiful thoroughbred race tracks in the country. I was born in Kentucky and have lived here most of my life except for the time I spent in art school in Atlanta and a three and a half year stint in the Air Force. It is a beautiful place except for when the light goes out around the first of November and the heavy skys are full of rain and gloom.
For most of my career I worked in public television at the statewide network, KET. I started there in 1968 as the art director when it first went on the air. A few years later I became the head of production, a job I didn’t like much but never admitted to myself until I quit doing it.
After that I started an in-house unit we eventually called Enterprise. Our purpose was to market KET creations to PTV stations and other organizations outside the state. In KET everything it creates is free or essentially so. Most of what we sold had to do with adult education. GED prep, for instance, and literacy programs. It was exciting and fun. The people I worked with at KET Enterprise were special, full of enthusiasm and creative energy. I cannot imagine a job that could be more rewarding.
It was especially so for me because as head of production I had a big hand in creating the programs we sold.
After I left KET I focused on art and photography. I’ve been doing that now for over 15 years. It is so rewarding because I learn something everyday and get a fresh look at the world around me.
I decided to create this blog as a diary of sorts. I meant to post much more frequently than I have and I keep reminding myself that I should be writing more.
